Microsoft Teams has become the backbone of collaboration for many organisations — but keeping track of what was discussed, agreed and actioned in meetings can still be a challenge. That’s where Microsoft Copilot steps in. In this latest instalment of our Copilot How‑To series, Bruce Penson from Pro Drive IT demonstrates how Copilot can automatically transcribe, summarise and extract key insights from your Teams meetings, helping you stay organised without taking notes.

To get the most from Copilot, your meeting needs to be transcribed. The easiest way is to schedule your meeting directly in Teams rather than Outlook, where you’ll find enhanced options — including the ability to automatically record and transcribe. If you’re already in a meeting, organisers can start transcription at any time via the “More” menu.

Once your meeting is complete, the Meet tab in Teams provides a clean, centralised view of past and upcoming meetings. Selecting a meeting with a transcript enables Copilot’s recap features. You’ll see the full transcript, speaker timeline, topics discussed and — most powerfully — Copilot’s AI‑generated notes. These summarise the conversation into clear sections, making long meetings easy to digest.

Copilot also identifies follow‑up tasks mentioned during the meeting and links them to the relevant part of the transcript. And with the Copilot chat panel, you can ask questions such as “What were the best practices discussed around data security?” Copilot responds using only the meeting content — not external sources — and provides direct links to the exact moment in the transcript for context.

This functionality allows you to focus fully on the meeting, confident that Copilot will capture everything accurately.
