If you have not already heard the news or seen it in the App Store here it is – Microsoft Office is finally available for the iPad! So how do you get it? Well before we cover that a word of warning. The Office for iPad apps are large and you will need to allow 2-3GB of space on your iPad if you are planning to install them – this might rule it out for some older iPads.

Installing the apps is actually quite simple – it is done through the app store as with any other iPad app. They currently sit at the top of the App Store rankings so should be simple to find. However as with all Microsoft products this is not the entire story…

The apps are free to download and can be used as they are to read spreadsheets, documents and presentations. These will usually find their way to your iPad via email but you can also read files on OneDrive (Microsoft’s DropBox alternative).

However to edit files or create new content you will need an Office 365 subscription with an Office application license. Once activated you will also be able to connect to your Office 365 OneDrive or SharePoint sites to access shared content on the move.
